Nope – I did not even download it – the only one I downloaded was the 64 bit msi, which I installed.

    Grazie,

I saw that too = I am using Win 7 64bit on Intel. I ran the 64 bit installer to see what would happen as I am 64 bit, and it installed fine.

    So far, so good.

Created the necessary backups, installed the pack, am now able to use the raw files in paint.net, and they show thumbnails in Windows explorer.

Will work away as usual and watch rendering.

Thanks again everybody for the advice.

    Grazie,

Thanks for the pointer for the MS stuff – I missed this completely. I am happier to take a chance with MS stuff.

I am working with RAW files more and more recently – between my own camera and files that I get from others, so wanted to be able to work with them natively. My photo-editing applications are on the same machine as VP, and I was more concerned with the potential pollution of Vegas

Geoff’s advice re the system image is good – I am doing that now, and will post an update when done.

Thanks again for all the info.

  • Yes, absolutely – this works fine. At one stage on my previous machine I had VMS 9, VMS10 and Vegas pro 10 all installed at the same time. it was not uncommon for me to have VMS9 or 10 open at the same time as Pro and be copy/pasting between the apps….

Kelly, that did it – thanks – never thought of that – hit the start button clears it up.

@Steve – I checked and I did not have the latest quicktime installed – downloaded it but it did not help.

    Thanks all for your input.

    Steve,

I deliver the majority of my files from Vegas for playing on macbookpros, and I always use the Mainconcept codec, rendering to mp4. This is played by quicktime standard on the laptops. I have never had to install any additional drivers etc for the file to play.

    I hope this helps.

    John,

It is clear now that I have been ‘misusing’ the RAM preview. I have been using it preview several minutes of a video… I can playback SD in realtime without previewing no problem – but if I add some effects it does drop down to half-quality and can become quite ‘stuttery’ – particularly if I add many of the BCC effects (rays for example). Sometime I might have several effects on a track – chroma key, some rays, maybe some brightness/contract tweaks etc) and then preview is very slow/laggy.

My machine is an I7 3930K, ASUS P9X7P motherboard, 32GB RAM, SSD OS, SSD APPs and 4TB raid 5 for rendering with Windows 7 Ultimate and a GTX670.

I take it so that the only real way to ‘preview’ properly is to render to disk and then view the render, or is there another way to do an ‘in-memory’ render and view that? I have been setting my ram preview to 8GB and was able to preview 10-12 minutes..

    Thanks

John, I have a follow-up question on this.

I too have 32GB or RAM in my system, so setting large amount of RAM for preview is not a problem. If I set my ram preview back to 200MB, then I can only preview about 10-15 seconds of footage before it stops (as in stops buildingthe RAM preview, not crashing). My footage is all SD, PAL DV (720 x 576), with no effects, but only some cross-fades and an MP3 audio track.

What should I expect 200MB of ram preview to give me?

    I have Vegas 12 PRO, wind 7 65 bit ultimate, i7, 32GB of RAM.

    Thanks.

    Pierre,

Many thanks for the prompt response. I changes to ‘premultiplied, dirty and it seems to have stopped the warnings – but we will see.

    Thanks again.
