I should know this, but I have a rush request from a client to shoot the traffic flow at a shopping center for one hour then encode the file into a format that will be shown on a Mac laptop. Here is the client’s client request: “We want in regular time in a format we can show on a laptop (apple product). We don’t need voice over. Need ability to pause and jump to certain points. I want to specifically show cars taking a left out…”

I have no idea what viewer is on the laptop, so, would I be safe using the Main Concept AVC, Apple iPad preset?

I am guessing that delivery will be on a thumb drive. We haven’t talked about that yet.

Hey Steve, this may be a stupid MAC answer, but wouldn’t just an MOV do the trick, with the Quicktime player? Or, by “jump to certain points” do you need something akin to a marker?

    Steve,

I deliver the majority of my files from Vegas for playing on macbookpros, and I always use the Mainconcept codec, rendering to mp4. This is played by quicktime standard on the laptops. I have never had to install any additional drivers etc for the file to play.

    I hope this helps.

MainCopncept AVC MP4 should do the trick. Feel free to rename it from .mp4 to .mov before giving it to the client because the MP4 container is a proper subset of the MOV container. I would use the Apple iPad/iPhone 4 720p30 Video template.
