If you sign on to do a job at “X” dollars, you have signed on to do your best work at that price. Unless, when you were hired, your new employer said “So, Aaron. I can only pay you half of what your worth so please feel free to give it 50%. Sleeping is OK, as are flip flops and beach shorts”.
I suggest that you need to take the question you asked us, to the person who is responsible for your paycheck.

We get about 20% of our business through search engines and the remainder is networking or referrals.
I did forget to mention that your site is very clean and to the point. I found it extremely easy to navigate, fun in fact. It shows that you think outside the box.
However, the voice behind the video clips was very flat and lifeless. I don’t do my own for a very good reason.

Your site is unfindable. It’s all pictures. There is no text for search engines to look for. You have some meta tags but no content text.

Don’t feel bad about yourself. It’s happening to a lot of us. I have had numerous, long term jobs go away due to budget cuts. And, seasoned veterens like me and a whole bunch of other pros have to contend with the younger people coming in and offering to do work for next to no money. You “no” the type. No experience. No employees. No insurance. no overhead. No nuthin.
Anyone jumping into this business right now, thinking that they’re going to make tons of money, is in for a very rude awakening. If I didn’t have 25 years worth of clients and connections, I would be having a major problem. Luckily, most of our client’s have a certain level of quality that they must maintain or they will lose market share.

Whatever you buy, get two. Edit with one and back it up every night to the second one.
And, I’m not getting the noise question. On most of those drives, I usually have to touch it to make sure it’s running. Except when the fans are running.
We have a shelf where we have our external drives and we have a small fan blowing on them. Heat kills drives.
