BZ Rights in New York is the consumate organization for getting the rights you need. A client of mine had just finished a project and I had stressed to him that he needed to get his music cleared. He explained that an entertainment attorney had advised him that everything was OK to use. After contacing BZ Rights, he found out that he needed rights for the Karoake recording of the music he used. It cost him a mere $350 and he is completely legal. Don’t listen to anyone who tries to gives you advice to the contrary. They won’t be the ones on the receiving end of a lawsuit.

I did. I really did.
Normally, I tell them to go take a fifth grade spelling class and get back to us.
If you think bad spelling is OK then what will you think of bad framing, bad audio, and bad writing? People who can’t spell think nothing of looking stupid.
But that’s just my opinion.

17 years ago, I had an idea for a TV show. I asked around and everyone agreed that it was the most stupid idea that any human being has ever had. My idea? Simply hop in the back of a police cruiser and record what they do. I needed to have just done it and sold it. But no, I listened to all of the genuises in my circle of friends and skipped it. Today, “COPS” is one of the most syndicated programs on TV. I kick myself in the ass every Friday night at 7PM. I keep waiting to see my brother in law from Florida in one of the episodes.

We used a Trademark Attorney. At first, the Gov’t said no to our name but we fought it and won. It cost us about $1000. You can do it yourself for a lot less.
See USPTO listing for “Controversial Pictures”.
There is a company named Controversial Records and USPTO said it was too similar because they have DVDs listed under their products. We explained that their DVDs will have music while ours will have feature films. Different product on a similar delivery method. We won.
Also, the USPTO tried to say that our name is “Descriptive” but so are a lot of others.
Did you know that the USPTO office was going to close in the early 1900s because they said that “Everything that can be invented has already been invented”? Our government at work.

We have exactly the same problem with our G-5 Quad but not with our dual 2.7. We just took delivery on a MacPro dual 3.0. We’ll keep you posted on that one.
