Walter..I have to agree with Jared… I myself just having finished an HD Feature have not seen this problem…I am using FCP5 and Kona 2 capturing offline DVCPRO100 via HD SDI and then Onlining at 10 Bit via HD SDI…everything went as smooth as silk. Are you using the new 1.4 driver for Kona??

HI all..With my recent experience cutting a feature I think a SATA array is the way to go. Yet it will cost @ $10,000. I use an Enhanced Technology UltraStor 320 array using 16 400gig SATA drives (5.6Tb) striped Raid 5,0 with the ATTO UL4D card and the KONA test says it runs about 400megs a second more than enough speed for 10bit uncompressed HD. As far as how much storage you’ll need, here are some real numbers:

My offline storage was around 800gigs, in the DVCPRO HD format (about 42 tapes).
My online storage at 1080i 10bit uncompressed was around 900gigs for a 97 min feature.

Keep in mind i was storing both my offline and online footage on the same drive so that i would have a reference if need be. It’s also because the offline audio is used for the final OMF output.

Also, having a drive of this size allows me the opportunity to take on other jobs at the same time. It would not be a wise decision to limit myself to one project only at a time.

If $$$ is really, really an issue I would reccomend that for something like this you should get at least a 3.2Tb array. This will probably cost around $7500 but might leave you without extra storage for renders etc.

Hi..try and change your capture offset to -3 frames in the audio video prefs/device control ..I think you will find the sync to be on..let me know as I have a call into AJA re this

You can do that..just remember to set the deck capture offset to -3 so the TC is correct..wow syncing all that stuff is gonna take so time as well..good luck

Sorry to inform you and your assistant that you must do it the hard way..Yes I have TC breaks so I am forced to log one take at a time but in addition I changed my workflow so as not to log and Batch Capture but to mark in mark out then capture clip..this avoids the sync problem…I was 4 days behind and now I am finally caught up..It really does not take more than 10-15 min per tape extra to do it this way…we just better hope there is a fix before I have to Online this Movie..one clip at a time would become extremely painful to up res an entire film.

yes it is… I’m terrible with the terminology…DVCPRO100 is HD at 14 MBs per sec..DVCPRO50 is Standard Def 4:2:2 at about 7Mbs

Keith..I would go with my offset of -3..I am doing the same exact capture as you are doing..DONT USE BATCH CAPTURE..capture each clip one at a time..if you use a -7.5 offset the edl list will be WRONG if you give it to an outside person for online..Trust me My settings will work..I reported the problem to AJA over 1 a week ago and they are working on it..in the meantime..try my way and take the window burn out of the 500 deck to check to see that the window on the material you capture is the same # as FCP thinks it is in the viewer window..Let me know if thiat works for you cause it does for me.

I am running QT 7.1 and tiger on a dual 2.5 G5..capturing footage shot on HDCAM at 23.98 digitising into dvcpro100 codec..set capture offset to -3..you can only capture now or use the capture clip setting..DO NOT USE BATCH CAPTURE..this will cause the audio sync problem.
