If you want to deform in three dimensions, the Forge Freeform plugin used to be the only way within AE, but Forge seems to be asleep these days. I don’t know if the plug has been updated lately. Maybe you could check out 3D layer .

AE actually wasn’t designed to deform in three dimensions. Most 3D apps can do that pretty easily.

    Anybody else?

Turning off 3D for a layer deletes any Z-position or X/Y rotation values. When you switch 3D back on for that layer, those values come in at 0.

Have you studied the manual on this?

I don’t know if this is your problem, but … the layer order in the timeline has no bearing on front/back positioning for 3D layers. Z-position determines that.

Do your conflicting layers have the same Z-position?

The key search term would be “anaglyph”. Possibly with “adapter” and “stereo”.

    Googling led to:

Sorry, I have no first-hand experience in the matter.

    Hope that helps,

Maybe with the render>CC Light Burst effect applied to an adjustment layer? Make the Fractal Noise layer 3D.

It’s a kludge, but what the heck.

A good AE plugin for this sort of thing is RE:Flex.

There are other ways to do it in AE, though. Search the COW posts (include the archives) using “morph” as a search term.

From what I’ve read, Elastic Reality is out of production.

AE tracks the points in the frame and calculates their X/Y positions. However, it does not have the capability of solving for the position of those markers in 3-D space.

If you wanted to do that, you’d need a mocap studio. I can’t see a matchmoving app’s being able to solve multiple moving tracking points without the multiple sensors of a mocap studio.

    my 2 cents,

    Maybe.

Try viewing your comp at 1/2 res, 50% magnification, previewing every other frame.
If that doesn’t work, try 1/4 res, 25% magnification.

Select edit>purge>image caches between RAM previews.

For more information, search the help under “RAM preview”.
