A problem I have with AE 6 is that in active camera view 3d background objects sometimes appear in front of foreground objects and vice versa. I can even find the exact spot where if I move a layer one pixel it will pop behind or in front of the other layer. I changed the Avanced 3d renderer to Standard and vise versa. I only have 3d layers in my timeline, no 2d. What am I missing?

    Thanks

I don’t know if this is your problem, but … the layer order in the timeline has no bearing on front/back positioning for 3D layers. Z-position determines that.

Do your conflicting layers have the same Z-position?

Maybe I am having some tech problems because when I turn off 3d then turn it back on again the problem is gone? All my z rotation is set at 0? I’m not a wiz either.

Turning off 3D for a layer deletes any Z-position or X/Y rotation values. When you switch 3D back on for that layer, those values come in at 0.

Have you studied the manual on this?

Thanks for the feed back Steve. I will study Z-position info more carefully. I only have the manual that came with the program, is there another one I should be refering to? Thanks again. Morgan

    Nope, there’s no other manual.

But if you want a great set of supplementary texts, buy Trish and Chris Meyer’s Creating Motion Graphics books.
