Interlaced footage has to have its fields separated (file>interpret footage>main>separate fields) in order to scale, move, rotate, blur, or otherwise distort the footage.

If the fields are not separated, you’ll see multi-combing, which may be your problem. If so, you need to go back to the original interlaced footage and separate fields.

Check the Help for more info.

    Ah. Thanks for the screengrab.

Did you install the Cycore effects from the AE install CD?

(if you have an educational version, that may not be an option)

Does that apply to AE 6.5, Aharon?

… but the X and Y position curves are not separate, which is a bummer. This feature has been requested.

One workaround is to create sliders for each value (effect>expression controls) and tie each slider to the X or Y value of the desired layer by pickwhipping the slider’s value to the X or Y value of the desired layer. This way, one slider follows the X position value, and one follows the Y position value. You edit the graph of each slider separately.

It’s goofy, but it’ll have to do for now.

    Anybody else?

Select the camera, then hit layer->transform->auto-orient->off.

Consider that many examples that are limited to one app are technical or “how-to” in nature.

If you seek design inspiration, you may wish to visit motionographer.com to see examples of good design. Yes, those examples are not limited to After Effects (or Combustion or Flame), but with time you (and others) will be able to spot those animations which were created with After Effects and those which were created with a 3D app such as Cinema 4D.

[Dave LaRonde] Choose any one of the five pulldown patterns you see. I’m lazy, so I ususally choose the first one. “

So do I, but mostly because it’s easy to remember if I have to figure it out later. I always use the first pattern.

    But I’m also lazy.

For even pacing you can use roving keyframes. Or take a 3D null, rotate it around the Y-axis, then parent the camera to the rotating null to orbit around an object.

… and you do have to make a camera … never use AE’s default camera. But you knew that. 🙂
