Trey, First and Utmost make the sacrifice to get a high quality video camera and a good lighting kit (lighting).
That is the greatest investment you need to make in achieving the
    quality you seek..no shortcuts..trust me.

Then of course you compliment that with sony vegas Pro and most
of the plugins available for it..there is now quit a few.

    Anything else?

Since you are working off a budget…..Go with video copilot action
movie essentials along with a few from detonationfilms.
No need to venture into ‘FXhome effects lab Pro’.

You will experience various limitations using ‘vegas platinum editions’
if you want to really push the envelope in terms of providing
    impressive shots.

    Exactly as Adam said,
And may i suggest you can also buy “Particle illusion” to create
impressive and realistic muzzle shots along with explosions and
    tons of other effects.
Or download some free ones at ‘detonationfilms.com
Vegas handles compositing these as good as any compositing application out there.

  • Trust me David, its worth every penny. It makes your video appear
as it was shot on film giving you that expensive look..you can
make back that money in no time and blow away your client…who would certainly spread the word.
There is a demo available on the site..download it and witness the
miracle. The demo functions exactly like the full version except for
a watermark. You can even link it to vegas to function within vegas and the timeline.
sorry…cant recommend any other to try, this is the best.
Only Magic bullet Frames comes close, and that is only available as a
    plugin for after effects etc.

June 26, 2008 at 10:28 pm in reply to: Video Color to look more like film

    As john recommends…
start with color corrector and color curves first, not many people realize how versatile and advanced sony vegas color curves is in
crushing the blacks and achieving an overall gamma tone similar to film.
Yes you have those two major plugins that emulate a film tone beautifully to your footage, but if you cant afford those right now,
color corrector and color curves are the way to go.
