Its best not to have your “Editing”(bay or computer)connected to the internet.
As DSE said do a system restore to when it was runnung properly.
Do you have this computer online and with windows automatic update
    enabled ?

Yes indeed..this is a constant occurence plaguing a lot of vegas users
First off DVD Copy and corel probably has little to do with this kind of prob vegas has, i use the corel suite for my major image based work and NO part of it
interferes with vegas….here is a similar post with a solution :

Sony vegas pro is a different installation and application all together, it will not overwrite vegas platinum.
You can have them both running on your system with no conflicts.
Since no need for both on a system…install vegas pro, then
uninstall vegas platinum…doesn’t matter which order.

I really hate when things like those occurs Sprague….where
you cannot come up with a solution, its frustrating, and
surprisingly tomorrow you will get up and everything is running and rendering with ease. Seen it so many times.

Tell you what…Make sure the time and date on your system is accurate,
then, defragment your hard drive…and then go to
    C:Program Files-Sony Setup-Vegas Pro 8.0 and press vegas80_enu
to carry out maintenance on vegas and see if this helps. The entire process wont take long. Let me know.

I really cant believe what you are saying Sukkhin,Everything is a blur
to me right now….did you say Vegas 9 at beta stage.
    Did you say 128 bit?
Did you say Model compositing from major 3d applications ?
Salivating is putting it way too mildly.
