Have you tried altering the levels higher or lower and then check the output? If they come out similar to your -8 then their is limiting going on in the render stage.

    1. Add duplicate track without effects to multitrack.
    2. Then apply effects to original track in single track mode and then add it to the same multitrack project.
    3. In multitrack mode original track with effects set the volume envelopes to “0” during the part you don’t want the effect.
    4. Set the volume envelopes opposite in the duplicated track.
Additionally you can adjust each track individually in the Waveform editor by double clicking on it.

I listened to Simon’s fix and attempted to emulate what he accomplished. Using Audition I think I got pretty close.

    1. Using Automatic Click Remover, Highlight the right channel only. Use 0% threshold and 100% complexity. no need to do the left unless there are clicks elsewhere in the full clip.

    2. Save a noise print of the high pitched sound at the end of the sample clip. About .100ths of a second should be enough. once the clip is saved, highlight entire audio clip and pick Effect-Noise Reduction and apply 100% and reduce by 10-50 dB. (your choice)

    3. EQ Parametric Equalizer, pick Loudness Maximizer. I set the L value at -18 at about 180 Hz. Set H value to -16 at about 10k. adjust till you like it.

  • I see on Sony’s site they have Build #428 from November 2014. Is this your version? Do you have a previous Build version to try.

Noise reduction in Audition and any other wav editor is limited in it’s effectiveness. Minimal usage is always best for maintaining sound quality.

I’d try adjusting EQ levels before using noise reduction. Just EQing out the narrow band where most of the noise is may be enough to make it usable without additional noise reduction.

Another way to reduce noise is Phase Cancellation. You take a recording of the noise and invert the phase and play it bake along with the audio track with the noise can cancel out the noise.

Are you using an USB audio interface or are you using sound card/onboard audio?
Are you recording in 2 track mode or multi-track mode? In either mode you can select which input to use.

In any case to use a mono mic with a stereo input you should have it routed to the left channel as it defaults to mono sound if nothing is connected to the right channel. In Audition you can specify the channel to use for input and whether it is mono or stereo recording.
    Happy recording

  • Audio compensation is usually handled by the DAW software automatically. Check Preferences in Audition to make sure it is not turned off. Reaper and Audition should work identically as long as the computer is fast enough and has plenty of RAM. Audition is heavier software and uses more resources and that could be the problem.

Alternatively, try reducing the latency with the slider in the preferences you show in your Dropbox png’s.
Try another USB port especially if you are using other devices (hard drives) via USB, or remove the other USB devices and test.
    Always,
Check for newer drivers for your audio interface and keep the older versions. You never know when you will need the older version when the newer drivers fail.
Do you have the 32 bit version available of Audition, try it.
Last resort would be to try using another audio interface, even a cheap one for comparison.

While Audition can work with Video, I’d use an NLE for laying out the work. Vegas, Premiere or Final Cut Pro on a Mac would be better suited for the work.
    That being said…
In Audition just setup one audio track for each voice artist. Label appropriately. Save all files to a single directory/folder along with the Audition project file. After each days work, I’d zip it up and save off to a thumb or hard drive.

Keep all the previous work so you can go back if disaster strikes. A written log of where you are at for each days work always helps. Forethought will save you in the end.

    Just a note…
Never change file names outside the program you are using them in. If you are going to use an external program with any audio file to alter the audio, be sure to maintain the bit rate and bit depth. Id always keep a backup of the replaced file and note it.

    Good Luck

Audition 5.5 supports batch process. You can use 1 process such as Normalize, Fade, De-Esser, Hard Limit, Raise pitch, Remove vocals, remove 60Hz hum or a couple others. then pick your format and sample type to save to.
You need to look in the software for Batch Process under the Edit menu.
Most software will perform similar process in one pass.
