I put one copy in the source window which becomes the “before” and then do my adjustments in realtime on the program monitor. I don’t really understand the need for the third monitor. The active one and the final one are the same.

Have you tried “Dip to Black”?
HAve you tried just using single ended transitions? Apply a dissolve to the end of a clip and a new one to the beginning of the next.

Rendering in Premiere Pro means to prepare preview files that allow the PC to show complicated graphics and effects in a realtime manner.
Rendering in some other applications means Exporting.

What did you use for settings when you exported it in the first place?

Exporting and editing sizes are two different things. Export your PAL frame to a bigger size, but remember, the pixels are not there. To get them, you have to create them in software. The quality diminishes.

Make sure you don’t set the title to end off screen. Put a second copy of the title on the track right after the first. Set the Frame Hold to End Point on the second copy of the title, not the first.

Let’s just say that many people have had problems with batch capturing HDV and being frame accurate. I have never done an online edit, so I will leave that response for the real pros in this barn.

Those are all related to DVD markers. You can do that if you want to make a DVD in Premiere Pro. But those markers don’t get exported. So use Sequence markers. Look it up in the Help menu under “sequence marker”

I would export the PAL DV AVI and use Canopus Procoder to convert it to NTSC.

I have never heard of anyone being successful with using proxy files. The main problem is the EDL doesn’t do the trick. Just edit HDV with a powerful PC and be done with it. I always recommend using Cineform Aspect HD to allow less powerful computers to work with HDV.
