    Hey group,

I shot a project with the JVC GY-HD100U (720p) in HDV-30p mode. I want to edit “offline” with small files and generate an edl for final HD online editing. Can anyone share with me the best way to down-convert the 720p HDV footage to SD with timecode so I can off-line edit in SD? Or is there a better way to work “offline” with small files and generate an EDL for final HD online editing?

    Thanks

    Doug

I have never heard of anyone being successful with using proxy files. The main problem is the EDL doesn’t do the trick. Just edit HDV with a powerful PC and be done with it. I always recommend using Cineform Aspect HD to allow less powerful computers to work with HDV.

Thanks Steven for the response. You say the EDL doesn’t do the trick. Even if we work with HDV files and forget about the SD down-convert, we DO want to rough-cut the piece and send the EDL to our online editor for final editing. Are you saying that the EDL will not work for us?

    Thanks,

    Doug

Let’s just say that many people have had problems with batch capturing HDV and being frame accurate. I have never done an online edit, so I will leave that response for the real pros in this barn.
