I recommend that you shoot a wedding for free under a contract that allows you to use the footage for advertising. Just go to a church and ask the pastor or priest for an introduction to a couple who have little or no money and would still like a wedding video. It will work for both of you if you find the right couple.

White balance the upper right corners of the second clip where the original is blown out.

You can simply import the HD footage into your SD project and scale it down as required. You will find that sometimes you scale it to fit, and sometimes you scale it to get the best part of the larger frame into the smaller frame.

Premiere Pro does not shrink your clips. The frame size of your project is just bigger than your video, that’s all.
You can make a project the same size as the video, or as you discovered, you can crop the video during export. I prefer the former.

I think you would be happier editing in the same frame size as the videos you import. A custom project setting using the Desktop editing mode would allow you to skip scaling up the video to fill the frame. Just use it at the native resolution.

You should be OK. If you have room to leave CS2 on your system along with CS3, it would be a great idea. As far as video goes, it is better to finish projects in the application that created them.

Well, within reason. I think if you named it video.doc the system would try to open it with MS Word. But since you use a video player for MP4, AVI and MPG, they will get played according to their codec.

I believe you want to research the “Color Pass” effect.
You may need to use a loose garbage matte as well though. It depends on what else is in the frame.
