  • I fixed it by starting over and enabling auto-ripple and the problems went away.

Yes, I think that is what I will do. I can save all my documents on another drive.

Terry had suggested https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/208/873543 a conversion possibility. But I wonder if that really works and what would happen to all my programs and fonts?

(If it doesn’t work, the idea of reinstalling the OS, Programs, and Fonts etc. is daunting.)

    Excellent! Exactly what I needed.

Thanks. I gave this a try (see video above) and was able to get Vegs 8 to give my 720×536 rendered files in the MOV, RM and WMV formats but not in MPEG2 or AVI formats.

My first goal on this project is to convert the output file to Flash FLV for the web so I am halfway there but I thought that the MPEG2 and AVI formats would be a good idea in case I need to burn to a DVD version later. (I haven’t learned Architect yet – I am still using Nero to burn discs.)

Is there a way to get Vegas 8 to render a MPEG2 or AVI file at 720×536?

    Many thanks!

Thanks. I tried this (see link above) and was able to get Vegas 8 to give me 720×536 on WMV, MOV and Real Medial files. But it would only give me 720×480 files for MPEG2 and AVI Video for Windows formats.

My first goal is to take my output and convert for Flash Video for the web, so I am halfway there. But I thought it would be a good idea to have the AVI or MPEG files if I need to burn a DVD version later. (I haven’t learned DVD Architect yet – I’m still using Nero for disc burning.)

Is there a way to get it to give me 720×536 for MPEG2 or AVI formats?

Great! Thanks. It works just as you say and I needed to undo it after I worked with it. (This file was converted from a 10 year old VHS tape, so I am happy to have this tool.)

Awesome tip! That seems to give me nice wave forms and a louder signal.

I imagine I will leave it like that. Any reason I wouldn’t?

    Will it increase file size?

    Many thanks!

Ah, I see that you are correct. It IS FAT32. (Eyes roll)

It’s a P4 3.066GHz CPU Win XP PRO SP2, 1.5 GB RAM, 60 GB HD. 3 years old. I wonder what would be involved to get it reformatted? Would I probably have to take it to a service shop?

I’m still new at this video editing and learning what is really needed for proper hardware and software configuration.

I have another external drive that is a 500 GB Seagate USB drive that is NTFS formatted. I had been using this for my video and photo files, but lately it is temperamental and will periodically lose connection with the main computer. Then I have to unplug and reboot to get the connection back. And that is bad to get interrupted in the middle of a large file operation. I’m not sure what is causing it. Maybe I should take it to a service shop as well?

Sorry to be such a newbie. Many thanks for all your help and tips!

Ahh. I had tried AVI uncompressed Default Template and MOV Default Template. I should try the AVI with the NTSC DV template?

And then I tried to TOOLS/RENDER TO NEW TRACK. That gave me gave me 3 files of about 3.99 GB each on my hard drive but only put the first one in my Project Media bin and on the new track. Maybe I didn’t do it correctly? (I’d like to know how to do that properly.)

  • Hmm…but when I add all the files to the timeline, the audio tracks don’t match up – there is a small gap at the end of each event in the audio.

Is there any way to fix that cleanly and automatically?
