  • Wow…yes that works. It saves them as a whole bunch of mpg files of approximately 204,000 KB in size and corresponding mpg.sfk files of approximately 520 KB each.

Maybe I went about this the hard way trying to rip one large file with other software in order to import just one file?

Hmm…but when I add all the files to the timeline, the audio tracks don’t match up – there is a small gap at the end of each event in the audio.

Is there any way to fix that cleanly and automatically?

Ooh…thanks for the tip…it made me think of something and I think I lucked out.

When I tried to select the event, it wanted to include the event adjacent to the left. So I managed to select the part to be deleted with the Loop Region tool above the timeline, then press S to reslice. That worked and I WAS able to DEL.

    Thank you so much!

Ah. I tried deleting the offending event, but the red section just transfers to an adjacent event. Is there anything I can do to force it to delete cleanly?

Or, if I undo about 30 deleted events, then the red area finally disappears. I wonder if I should try to redo all those cuts? (Seems like a lot of work to redo.:-()

  • Excellent! Thanks for the tip. Vegas is running snappy now using this auto ripple.

  • Seems like I got it working again so that I can drag events around somehow apparently by clicking and ungrouping every thing I could see. I’m not sure exactly how I caused the problem or how I fixed it.

Any comments from others who have experienced this and may know what exactly causes it would be appreciated for the future.

Also comments on how to close up gaps automatically after you cut something out of the timeline would be appreciated.

  • Thanks! I went to Wiki and Codec.com and looked up those terms. And I downloaded the codec and it is now in my Control Panel waiting for the next time I rip something.

Is SUPER supposed to be able to see it? (it isn’t showing in my SUPER)

  • p.s. I already tried closing all other programs and restarting the program and rebooting the computer. (Still bogged.)

  • Thank you. That is good to know that it doesn’t handle XviD or DIVX files.

What is the Lagarith (4CC: LAGS) codec you mention? Is that only available with another program and not SUPER? (I Googled and found https://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html Will this rip from DVD and give me a good file to edit with Sony Vegas?)

    Many thanks!

  • Interesting thread! I’m also new to this and having the same problems. Did you ever get it resolved?

Is there a Primer to read about this anywhere?

Did you ever get Pro and did that solve everything?

    Many thanks!

  • Thanks for the advice. I used SUPER (and yes it was hard to find and hard to figure out how to use, but I finally got it.) I made a new AVI with it, but it also failed to import to the Video track.

So then I made it into a MOV file instead, and that DID import to the Video line.

So then I took that MOV file and converted it back to an AVI file just to test it. But again, it would not import to the Video track.

Could it be that there is something corrupt about my original VOB file I am ripping from a burned DVD?

Can anyone shed any light on this? (If not, at least I have a work-around.)

    Many thanks!
