August 7, 2008 at 6:02 am in reply to: Can’t add AVI movie to Video track in Vegas Studio 8.0cI did not yet. That may be a very good idea. I created it with a program from https://www.avs4you.com called Video Converter.
Is there a recommended program I should try?
Many thanks!

August 6, 2008 at 12:08 am in reply to: Studio 8 won’t import video file to Video TrackOk. That MJPEG codec seemed to work with my still camera AVI files.
Now I have a problem importing a DIFFERENT AVI file (which I made by ripping a DVD that was made from an old VHS tape recording.) I used GSpot like you recommended to find the Codec and the Codec reported is DV50 DivX 5.0.5 which it says I DO have installed.
Yet, when I try to add my media to the Video track, it refuses to accept it and places it on the Audio track instead.
(I made sure I upgraded my Sony Vegas 8.0a to the latest 8.0c just in case that was a problem.)
Is there something I can do to get Vegas to accept the file for editing?
(My usual purpose is to edit various movie file types to upload to YouTube, Screencast, or Flash videos on Web sites.)
Many thanks!

Ok, I did that,
but my Web Format didn’t have a DV only choice, the the closest thing was DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, so I put that.and it rendered in 48 seconds and the file was 38 MB. It plays smoothly now but the quality was not too good. A lot of pixelation and artifacts and wavy lines.
Any other suggestions?
Many thanks!

Ok, I am willing to fix pilot error.
So I went in to check Custom settings and the default settings are:
Project tab:
Video rendering quality: GoodVideo tab:
Frame rate: 29.970 (NYSC)
Field order: Non (progressive scan)
Pixel aspect ratio: 0.909
Video format: None
Compressed depth: 32 bpp color
Quality: 50%Audio tab:
Audio format: Uncompressed
Sample rate (Hz): 44,100
Bit depth 16
Channels: StereoI rendered 10 seconds of video to a QT file and it took 1 minute 33 seconds and gave me a file 372 MB in size that plays back very jumpy.
Any suggestions for this pilot to fix.
Many thanks!

Thanks for the tip for YouTube.
But I still need to burn a bunch of these files on CD. They are dance files of various dancer friends. Also, the teacher prefers QT files for his Flash Programmer import into Flash to put on to his Web site.
(The AVI MJPEG source files are quite smooth at 30 frames per second shot at 640×480 on a Canon PowerShot SD630 Digital Elph. And they play fine by themselves on a computer.)
So I want to find out if the problem is inherent in Vegas Studio, or is it just my installation/setup somehow that it goofy? (I’m able to get good results in my ASV4YOU editor but it doesn’t have the extra tracks that Vegas has.)
Many thanks!

I bought the Main Concept MJPEG codec for $21.00 and installed it. But when I render out a QuickTime file, it is very slow and creates an extra large file that has jumpy playback.
I also own the AVS4YOU video editor which costs about the same as Vegas and it didn’t need this codec and it made much smaller files with smooth playback.
I just bought Vegas because I thought it would give me more options for more professional work.
I basically want to make quick files to put on the Web (YouTube etc) or CDs or import to Flash to publish to the Web.

January 28, 2008 at 10:44 pm in reply to: Studio 8 won’t import video file to Video TrackWell, I un-installed the Main Concepts trial, then went to their Web site and paid $21.00 for the download, and it has the same result as before. Slow render, extra large QT output file, and jumpy playback.
I wonder if this is a common problem with the Studio version?
I wonder if the Platinum Version of Sony Vegas already had a MJPEG codec?
How does the Sony Vegas Pro version work?

January 28, 2008 at 7:36 pm in reply to: Studio 8 won’t import video file to Video Trackhmm…I saw one of your posts about MJPEG and I did a search and came up with this https://www.free-codecs.com/Motion_JPEG_Codec_download.htm
andi I downloaded and installed it. During installation the installer said I would need the demo version of Main Concepts so I allowed it to install that. Then I opened Vegas and it now allowed my AVI file to be added to the Video track. But then it also says (Media Offline) over the track. I’m not sure exactly what that means and if they are going to want me to pay for the codec later?
So then I tried to render a Quicktime file from my 2:55 minute AVI file. That took 26 minutes, (and during the last 10 minutes the Preview Frame was black.) And it rendered me a 6.3 GB file. And it was jerky and skippy when it played.
When I did the same action with my AVS4YOU Video Editor it rendered the QT file in 16 minutes and gave a file of 71 MB that play smoothly.
So, I’m wondering why I’m still not getting a good result with the Vegas?
Should I uninstall that codec and get another?
I saw this link https://www.free-codecs.com/download/ACE_Mega_CoDecS_Pack.htm
and wondered if I should try that? That looks like a whole bunch of stuff at once. Would that compound troubles? My overall goals are to make lots of short QT videos quickly that I can import into Flash for export to the Web.
Also to make some longer dance videos up to 1 hour that I can quickly burn to DVDs.
Is Vegas going to be a good tool for that, or is it typically a slow rendering tool?

January 27, 2008 at 9:39 pm in reply to: Studio 8 won’t import video file to Video TrackThis review https://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/powershot_sd630-review/
says “Movies are saved in AVI format, using the M-JPEG codec.”Does that make sense, or is that just generic?

January 27, 2008 at 4:23 am in reply to: Studio 8 won’t import video file to Video TrackI previously had Vegas Studio 8.0 Platinum Trial installed. I wonder if I should uninstall both versions and reinstall my Studio 8 and see if that does anything?
