  • After making many cuts in timeline, flow is starting to bog

Thank you for helping me get rolling now. I have Sony Vegas 8 seeming to work real well – up to a point.

I have a one hour talking head video that I need to take out about 180 “uhs” and “ahs.”

I’m down to the last 60 but Vegas is starting to bog now.

My work flow has been to select the timeline where the offending word is, then hit the DEL button. I started at the end of the video and have been moving backwards towards the beginning (right to left.)

After I’ve made the cut, I select the video event(s) to the right of the cut, and then drag it to the left to match the previous cut.

This worked well at first, but became more cumbersome the more cuts I made. I began to select all the events to the right of the cut, then Group them with the G key, and then drag to the left.

But now all of a sudden, Vegas is going really slow, and the grouping on the right no longer will drag to the left.

First of all, is there a better way to Group events and shift to the left automatically?

Second, is there a way to get Vegas to drag events to the left now after I seem to have jammed it , or gotten to some kind of limit or something?

    Many thanks!

p.s. I already tried closing all other programs and restarting the program and rebooting the computer. (Still bogged.)

Seems like I got it working again so that I can drag events around somehow apparently by clicking and ungrouping every thing I could see. I’m not sure exactly how I caused the problem or how I fixed it.

Any comments from others who have experienced this and may know what exactly causes it would be appreciated for the future.

Also comments on how to close up gaps automatically after you cut something out of the timeline would be appreciated.

Don’t know about your bogging down but to streamline the closing of the gaps just click on the auto ripple icon. As soon as you delete the offending section all the events to the right will automatically close the gap.

Excellent! Thanks for the tip. Vegas is running snappy now using this auto ripple.
