No. You can use tradition Avid deck control through the CPU.

What is up with AVID wanting to keep tying in with the Keyspan
USA-19x and the secondary 232 to 422 adaptor. Why didn’t the Nitris DX box have a native RS422 port ? Why isn’t there support of the I/O Express with 422. (I am just bitching).

I had read somewhere that to use AVID MC6 with RS244 decks, on other Aja devices you had to use an external USB to RS44 converter.

I’m glad to hear that I can use the IO XT directly.

I am looking for a new interface box for my mbp now I am moving my home system from FCP7 to MC6.

Does the deck interface (RS422) on the IOXT work with Decks now?
I need to digitise SD/HD-SDI to prores, from sony decks, or do I still need to use a USB port on my laptop with serial converter ( and Rosetta?)?

Again, depends on what you need it for. That’s the cheapest card on the market. It doesn’t have balanced audio, no synch and no device control.

I am also looking for an interface ( for a mbp) for a move from FCP7 to MC6

Are there any that device control (sony decks) works with avid, despite them offering the RS422 interface.

Do I still need to use a usb-serial converter? What is suggested, and do I still require a rosetta converter?

I have had couple of produces who have not been amused by this 🙂

passing me music on a stick and all their video files pop up!

You can turn the go to ama settings and change the default behaviour, but that takes the fun away.

As Andrew suggested look at the file names.

I had a lot of problems getting some red files into fcp.

It eventually turned out that the red application was only a front end driving a unix programme, which would not accept many characters in the file name (“&” in our case). It did not produce an error, just would not load.

I use the z-plane virtual ppms. They are very good although officially only live on the mbp audio input.

However using the mac application soundflower I have been able to route fcp audio op int it.

I have not tried with avid but assume it will work?

I use a Cakewalk (Roland ) UA25EX has 2 mike inputs ( one can be low-z, ideal to get an electric guitar into garage band!, also midi control), it also has a simple compressor and limiter

Unfortunately now I am moving over to AVID for home use, avid only seems to accept m-audio usb devices at the moment.

(worth thinking about if you are not going to stay with FCP)

If you have any media that is rendered on V2 it will be lost, if you have fully turned the video track off

FCP always renders top-down.

The only recovery that I have found is “command-Z”, just turning V2 back on does NOT re-instate the renders ( like in AVID)
