Continue to look at OWC. Their Voyager enclosure allows you to add bare hard drives.

Seagate, Hitachi and Western Digital are good reliable brand name hard drives.

Prices on hard drives remain high today due to the floods in Thailand last year. I just paid $119 for a 2 TB Hard drive. Average price is about $150.

That’s what I thought. Change your sequence setting to PreRes and render.

ProRes HQ on a USB drive WILL choke your system. Like Jeremy said, check your permissions on the file.

You never specified the clips codec. QuickTime is just a wrapper. See if you can convert the clip to an FCP friendly codec such as ProRes then import that into FCP.

Psd files import into FCP as sequences. Save your file in Photoshop as a PNG and import that file into FCP.

Sounds like you are on a PC. Just a guess. Installing the correct driver does make a difference.
