This is what I would do. Render the entire sequence on the MacPro. Export a Self-Contained QuickTime Movie onto an external hard drive.
On the MacBook Pro, attach the external hard drive and Ultrastudio. Go SDI out of Ultrastudio to the EVS. The Ultrastudio will cross convert from 1080 to 720.
If the MacBook Pro and Ultrastudio won’t be with the EVS, you have 2 options, lay to tape or copy a ProRes file onto a AJA KiPro and playback to the EVS. I’ve done this many times.

As an FYI, .mov is just an extension. You would want to convert your original files to ProRes.

Not known. Purchase a Thunderbolt to FW800 cable and edit with a FW800 drive just to be safe.
One solution is Other World Computing’s Voyager Q dock. It includes all the connections you would need. USB 3, FW800 (X2), FW400, and eSata. All you need to add is a bare hard drive.

You’re gonna need a LOT more powerful computer than an iMac to do this. 4GB of RAM is not even bare minimum.
You’re gonna need a system with multi cores, at least 16GB of RAM and an EXTREMELY fast RAID array.

Make sure you are selecting Export QuickTime Movie and not QuickTime Conversion. If you are selecting QuickTime Movie, is the self-contained box selected? I would create a reference (not self-contained) for this project.
Tell client not to expect great results going SD to 1080. I would let Compressor do the conversion to 1080. Capture card could also do an up convert.

You are correct. h.264 is compressed. Find out where they intend to use the file.
A h.264 file for the web (YouTube, etc.) looks good at a 4-6 MBs.Steve Eisen
