When using Replace Edit, make sure there are NO In or Out points set on your timeline. Your playhead and the footage in the viewer determine what and where will be Replaced. Once you figure it out, Replace edit is a great tool.

That is why FCP is so flexible. There are at least three ways of working in FCP. Hold down KL or KJ to slow down. Arrow keys will move you one frame at a time.

Try using J K L on your keyboard. You will edit much faster when you keep your hand off your mouse.

FCP cannot capture more than one camera at a time. Your best workflow would be to switch your show live to tape and directly into FCP.

I work on a weekly show with three cameras. Program out gets recorded to Betacam SP, SONY DSRDR1000 and Capture Now in FCP. Wide shot camera gets iso recorded to another DSRDR1000. Graphics, lower thirds and video gets added after taping. 30 minute show takes less thas 3 hours .

Very simple to do in Final Cut. Lay down your audio track. Press Control V (Add Edit) to the beat. You can also make a button for Add Edit and click your mouse on the button.

Add edit sets your edit points. Press X between the edit points. This sets In/Out points. Set your Video Clip In and Overwrite (F10) to the timeline.

The only NLE that I know you can mix formats, is Pinnacle’s (AVID) Liquid Edition; Windows based. If you NEED to get this project done, this is your alternative.

You can also buy the AJA IO and convert your footage to the format you want to work in.
