Need workflow for music video editing
Hey Gang,
I’m a seasoned M100 editor who is switching to FCP. I speak geek, and learn new apps pretty fast. I’m looking for a cool workflow for Music Video editing. Below is the approach that has worked so well for me for the past 10 years…. I’m open minded and welcome any suggestions. But, in the mean time, here is a specific question. Is there a way to drag a clip in the timeline directly to a marker so that the clips starts on that frame in the timeline? I’m used to editing music videos on Media 100.The workflow I’m used to is as follows; I lay down the audio track, then play the audio track and as it plays, I type F6 (on Media 100), which creates a “user mark” or rather user marks to the rythm of the music. It’s a pretty fast and fun way to figure out my cut points for the song. Then, all I need do is trim the in point of each video clip in the bin, which works great, because I only really care about the next 30 to 60 frames. I worry about the out point in the timeline… Once I have each clip basically around the shot I want… I drag and drop each clip to the user marks in the timeline, which offers a very fast and very cool “cut to the rythm” edit. Then I tidey it up in the timeline.
Does anyone have any ideas for how I can re-create this workflow in Final Cut Pro? It seems that I can’t drag clips from the bin or timeline to mark in’s or markers… or a cool workflow in FCP for editing Music Videos.
Thanks much and warm regards,
Ethan-
