That is what you get when you buy used. Anything can be wrong with the camera if you do not know what it has been through.

Your best option is to clone your current HD onto a larger HD and replace your current HD with the new one.

Don’t know if that would work. Do you have access to your P2 camera? If you do, connect via USB or firewire.
Why don’t you just keep using the MBPro to offload your cards to your hard drive?
