Need tapless recording format for HVX200 that is not p2
Posted by Ted Rosean on October 23, 2008 at 5:03 pmI was wondering if anyone knew of any tapeless recording devices for the Panasonic HVX 200 that is not manufactured by Focus Enhancements? We have 2 FS100s, but they are completely unreliable and we don’t want to use p2 cards. Any suggestions?

What’s wrong with P2? Other than initial cost? I already know what’s wrong with Firestore.

October 25, 2008 at 12:46 amHi ted,
I use a Nnovia 80gig V-Mount as a long form back up with my P2 and my sony , connect via Firewire on both cams, had used now for three years no problems to date, only limitation is it’s only DV resolution, other than that it’s a very handy back up, I see they now have solid tape variations but a bit pricey,
If your “cashed up” get the P2 cards, if not go HDD or solid tape.Cheers

October 27, 2008 at 2:55 pmIf you don’t want to use P2 or Firestore- why get this camera? And why not? If it’s cost I think you have to look long term at what your real costs are for another method vs. biting the bullet and going with P2 cards. For day in day out usage they really cannot be beat for their reliability and durability, especially compared to any sort of outboard hard drive solution.

October 28, 2008 at 2:26 pmThe camera is fine for our purposes, and we like to shoot a lot DVC Pro 50 now, especially when shooting green screen interviews. Firestore simplified that process with DV50. WHEN the FS100s work, they work great. But they don’t work, and they crap out all of the time. So it seems like we may have to just bite the bullet and get some p2 cards. Everyone here is saying they have no issues with them. Thank you for the suggestion. -Ted
