I would go HD-SDI out of the HPX-500 and set the KiPro SDI to Downconvert. Timecode is embedded in the SDI signal.

m2v is for DVD. For best results, use h.264 for Blu-ray.

I haven’t had the chance to work with FCP X and P2. It works flawless with FCP 7, Premiere CS 6 and Media Composer 6.

P2 cards are formatted FAT 32. It has a file limitation of 4 GB. Most edit systems will stitch together the clips to make 1 file.

  • [Nick Casucci] “Does FC just make H.264 footage look crappy?”

FCP does not do this. H.264 is NOT an editing codec.

February 16, 2013 at 10:19 pm in reply to: Adding Camera to studio enviornment : Suggestions

Build off of what you have.

This would be my suggestion. Get another HPX-170. Your other options are the HPX-250 or HPX-370. The HPX-500 or 600 are probably out of your budget. Invest in P2 cards. They are very affordable now.

KiPro’s are incredible! They are the perfect match with any of the P2 cameras mentioned above. Connect via SDI and with the correct setting, KiPro will record when you hit the record button on the camera.

    PCD35 P2 card reader.

Can’t believe you are still using the Duel Adapter! Must using an ancient OS with it.

My 250 does the same thing. Very sharp when shooting. Soft when playing back.
