You have to render if you want to be sure of no dropped frames, theoretically it’s possible to just output in real time via HDSDi, but I haven’t been brave enough to try a whole show!

From Panasonic press release e-mailed today

” Panasonic are offering operators a chance to ‘shake down’ all the new
cameras as well as current models on a live set which will be constantly
    manned, moving and well lit.

Michael Erkelenz, Head of Production Management at PBE commented “Key
products at IBC this year will be the airing of the first working model of
Panasonic’s revolutionary new P2miniCam, the AG-HVX200 Camcorder. The
100Mbps HD P2miniCam, switchable between HD/SD and between interlaced and
progressive amid a host of other capabilities including variable frame
    rate”.

Marc Irwin, Marketing Manager at Panasonic in the UK has been watching the
building interest in this Camcorder and said, “This product has stirred up
more internet activity than any other launch in this marketplace, ever and
is something the industry has been eagerly awaiting”.

  • [Jan Crittenden Livingston] “have to deal with massive compression atrifacts “

Hmm, manufacturers reps making unsubstantiated claims against a competitors product here on the COW – is that right?

Can’t say I’ve noticed these MASSIVE atrifacts myself. You have a revolutionary camera coming out soon that should be a big success for you, and even some of us lowly, tape stuffing HDV owners are very interested in buying one, but I don’t think you need to be saying stuff like this, cheap shots are just that – cheap!

  • I’m working from home on my 20″ i-Mac at the moment and it’s absolutely fine with DV, renders are slow but if you’re not bothered by that it does tha job well.

Keep your cellphone away from any HD’s or tapes especially DV, some cellphones have been known to seriously corrupt data on DV tapes.

    I’ll second that,

FCP HD under Panther was ver VERY stable for us and FCP 5 under Tiger has the same stability with some very nice improvements that I wouldn’t want to be without. Improved scaling is a real biggie for us and the database management seems to be much better, large projects load fast and don’t drag the system down like in 4.1.

Clean install will get rid of most problems.

That can happen depending on your hardware setup. It’s a good tip to put your hardware/software setup in your profile so people can answer question like these quicker.

Do you any HD output cards in your system?

  • I’ve been working with HDV for a while and the only problem I’ve come across is the one we just seem to have resolved – it works with our system just as well as DV does. When you drop in into a 10 bit HD timeline it looks great.

Have you set the easy setup to HDV 1080i and then created a new sequence after that? This is not a problem that is being reported at all.
