In response to your original question, you will not be able to migrate the media, use Automatic Duck and recapture the footage and use the whole experience as a lesson, don’t start a huge project on an NLE you are not familiar with or that doesn’t fit your style of working.

There are thousands of professional editors editing on FCP every day, it has its shortcomings like most NLE’s but you find out what they are and work around them.

Talking about shortcomings, what is the “dupe detection bug?”

Incorporate DLT into your workflow, do you know what DLT records to -TAPE. So much for P2 bringing you a tapeless workflow!

Sorry had to get that off my chest! I use DLT all the time when we author DVD’s and it’s such an antique piece of technology I hate the stuff, it’s so SO slow. For me it would be a real step backwards to use DLT on a daily basis. Why on earth wouldn’t you want to use a more modern storage medium, the first holographic units start shipping in about 9 months apparently, which should coincide with P2 media prices dropping even further.

I think Panasonic should be on this question – if you could offer a foolproof and efficient way to archive your projects then it’s going to be a big advantage in selling the system to people like me.

Has it rendered the timeline? If you are expecting it to play out in realtime, that doesn’t work, it needs a fairly lengthy render before it goes to tape
