They do cut together very well, there is obviously more flexibility in the HDCam cameras as there are more settings, but if you want “Just Enough” HD the XDCam HD is fine, you have to work a bit harder than with the HDCam cameras but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the quality. Plus the fact the workflow ROCKS and you don’t need an expensive HDCam deck to capture from.

    Just my opinion

You are going about this the wrong way entirely, you need the XDCam HD transfer utility from the Sony XDCam site which is Free, you then set your firewire output on the camera or deck to FAM and hook it up.

Then when you go into FCP you get the option of XDCam in the “import” menu when you select this the XDCam Transfer utility opens and you can select which clips you want to import, this is a faster than realtime transfer and works very smoothly.

Then all the clips will work perfectly as long as they are the same datrate as yoour easy setup.

I’m not sure why they didn’t call it 5.2 as it has a lot of new stuff, but yes you have to upgrade your project, I’ve tried it and it seems to work just fine.

New 64 bit OS coming, quad core Xeons, Multiple graphics cards for GPU processing – you do the math!

5.12 gets FCP to just where I want it for the moment, quite happy to wait for version 6.

Great news and good to hear from the guys at Apple. Really looking forward to using the 35mb codec in XDCam HD natively.
