You will lose some quality as soon as you drop to the analogue signal path.
Simply capture HDV via firewire, then finish the project in the HDV codec which is MUCH easier to work with than large uncompressed files, then when you have finished simply drop your finished timeline into an uncompressed timeline and it will be rendered out to uncompressed.
We do this regularly and the quality is excellent.

Footage I’ve shot on the H1 in 50i plays back just fine on my Sony HC3 Camcorder, is the “F” modes that seem to have the problem.
Don’t forget the New Sony HVR V1, that does both interlace and progressive.

Been using one for 3 months now with no problems at all. Only downside is that it’s a JBOD array so if one drive goes pop you’re fried, but that’s why it’s a cheaper option. As far as I know the LaCie doesn’t offer RAID 5 either.
I’ve been editing HD with ease and it even copes with 10 bit Uncompressed HD.

The upgrade to FCP studio is still very cheap but the offer runs out soon, the benefits of the upgrade are immense and there are no downsides. I can’t believe there are any people out there who make a living doing this job that haven’t upgraded!
