If the audio is a Stereo Pair, you will have to make it 2 channel first Highlight all the tracks by hitting control A and Option L will make them 2 channel instead of stereo.

Then you can do what Thax suggested but a keyboard shortcut for that is (Control ,) for Pan Left and (Control /) for Pan right.

August 19, 2006 at 10:50 am in reply to: redigitizing video only

I started to test this, but never got a chance to finish.

You could “Capture Audio & Video to seperate files” ( That is in System Settings)
Then when you need to re-digitize deleted the Video.
Change the capture settings to video only and uncheck “Use logged clips setting”
    This will re-digitize video only.

The link to the audio may be lost so you would need to the go and “Reconnect” the audio in the timeline to the clips in the Audio Capture Scratch.

It may not be the most elequent way for doing it, but you asked if it can be done and this should work.

Like I said I haven’t tried the whole process, so I would suggest doing a test before you actually capture and edit your piece.

Why can’t you use the multicam process. There really is not fixed sync relationship. You just set and inpoint on your 4 camera and then make them a multiclip. If there is not talking heads on al cammera’s that makes it even easier. If there is then you have a sync point. It may not be matching time code, but find first audio on all of your clips, sest an inpoint and bam you have all you need for a multiclip.

I know I got great sdvice, that’s why I keep coming here.

It’s not like I’m going to be totally isolated from the web.
They are putting PC’s in the suites for us to get e-mail and check the Cow and other stuff.

    Thanks for all the advice.

August 11, 2006 at 7:09 pm in reply to: FCP Mac’s on a network or not????

    Mark;

I actually met with him during lunch today and discussed this and other things with him.
I was misinformed. he does not want the the SAN completely off the network.
His suggestion (which I agreed with at the time, but and reconsidering now) was to have a partion on the SAN that will have a virtual link to the network.
Anything that is placed in that partition will show up in a certain area “Drive” whatever you want to call it on the network.
The Mac’s won’t have direct internet or network acceess, but will will still be able to move files via this virtual link.

I didn’t think about the inability to update the OS or FCP or anything else.

I’ll have to bring that up to him.

I know he is going to say that Abraham ( the guy installing the SAN) is going to be a MAC consultant and he will take care of updating everything.
If that works out fine, if not we will confront it later.

    Tom;

    I agree with you too.

I have an IT background as well as editing and I understand his concern, but Like I said originally.

People don’t write viruses that are targeted to MAC because it is a small percentage of the computing workforce, Maybe not in our field, but in general.
In our company alone right now there are 5 MAC’s and probably 500 PC’s.

From a hackers point of view why put the time and effort into 1% of the population.

(Example: The terroists that attacked on 9/11 went for the largest buildings in the largest city rather than a local supermarket in Iowa)

    Walter,

I knew if anyone was going to respond to this it would be you and I was actually hoping for that.

I see your poiint and agree with it.
Like I said before I’m dealing with a person who has his ideas and it is very tough to change them.

I was just trying to come up with alternatives to give him when I confront him about this.

But you answered my question, exactly the way I expected.

I have never done it myself, but in Media Manager if you choose recompres is has an option to “Recompress Media” at any of the preset capture settings.

Be careful if Media Manager is used wrong you can lose media.

August 2, 2006 at 5:52 pm in reply to: Bluring Sections of the screen

Copy the video to another track above the original, Use a 4 or 8 point garbage mask then add a gausian blur to the second layer of video.

If you need a more precise matte and if the section is relatively still you can cut a mask in Photoshop and then do the same thing as above, but use the Photoshop mask as an alpha channel.
