I know how to make a mask for a blur in FCP, but is there any way to change the shape of it to match my image so it’s not just a rectangle, circle, etc. I want to soften up some wrinkled curtians that are in the back of an audience shot that I have, make them less noticeable.

Copy the video to another track above the original, Use a 4 or 8 point garbage mask then add a gausian blur to the second layer of video.

If you need a more precise matte and if the section is relatively still you can cut a mask in Photoshop and then do the same thing as above, but use the Photoshop mask as an alpha channel.
