Many like to use the Avid DNxHD codec as an intermediate. The Avid codecs are a free download, and will show up under the Quicktime format.
Having said that, don’t count Cineform out. It’s a wonderful codec for editing. Be careful about Neoscene. It support a very specific range of cameras, mainly ‘prosumer’ ones, and can’t process the files from some pro cameras, like our Panasonic HMC-150. Found that out the hard way, and then had to then purchase Neo.
