Only if you purchased the MAX option, and you probably would know this, because there is a significant price difference between the MXO2 Mini with and without the MAX option. The MAX option enables the MXO2 to handle H.264 encoding, and it is much faster than your CPU.

If you are just starting out, I’d recommend learning color correction using the tools in Premiere Pro. There are several tutorials here at the COW, as well as other places on the web. Then, once you’ve mastered those tools, and feel that you need additional functionality, you can look at other tools. I’m really fond of red Giant Software’s plugins, particularly Colorista and Magic Bullet Looks, although I’m using Looks more and more for color grading.

The ‘AVI’ leads me to think that your client is targeting Windows based computers. Sounds like you are developing with a Mac. If you happen to have a Windows PC, you could easily create this with Indigo Rose’s ‘Autoplay Menu Studio’.

We used to have a JVC model that was a combo MiniDv and VHS, with firewire. However, the firewire would only output the MiniDV signal, since it didn’t have a built in converter to convert the analog VHS signal to digital. I would imagine that this would be the case in most instances. You’re bets bet will probably be to locate a workable VHS deck, and combine with a converter, which may also be found rather cheaply these days.
For what it’s worth, I have made over 200 purchases on eBay, and quite a bit of them were equipment purchases. I have yet to be disappointed with any of them.

Might be a ‘hit and miss’ situation at Walmart, but you can always save the receipt. Hadn’t thought about VHS in a while, but your post prompted me to jump over to eBay, and sure enough, there are quite a few professional VHS decks there for under $100.

I remember that this used to indicate that the file you are attempting to write has gotten too large for your particular file system. It was a result of trying to write to a drive formatted as FAT32, instead of NTFS, and FAT32’s file size limitation were kicking in.

I’ve never actually used the Lagarith codec, although I do have it installed. We settled on Cineform as an intermediate codec when ‘Uncompressed’ isn’t feasible, say, on an hour long program. However, Lagarith is free, and Cineform isn’t.
Truthfully, I haven’t switched between Premiere and AE in this manner since CS5 came out, preferring instead to open the Premiere sequences in AE directly via Dynamic Link. However, when we did use intermediate files, we had a rule to keep the video structure as close to the original as we could. In other words, if the original was interlaced, we stayed interlaced.

With such a small amount of RAM, and working in 32bit, Dynamic Link may not be a good solution.
