Depending on which version of Adobe software you’re using, you might want to take a look at Edge Animate. If you’re on CC, then you already have it, or at least have access to it. One of it’s main benefits for you would be that it acts a lot like Premiere and AE, so you already know basically how it works. A distraction may be that, I believe, it only outputs HTML based presentations, so your program will have to run in a browser window, but there are ways to hide the browser chrome.

Flash is another option, if you’re not afraid to learn a little scripting language.

But a Google search for ‘multimedia presentation software’ will bring you scads of programs to look at, and most offer free trial downloads.

Internet usage is not a CPU independent activity. It’s not as if there is a separate pipeline between the internet connection and your graphics card. All internet usage goes through the CPU before it makes it to your screen. Therefore, even if your internet speed is remaining the same while encoding, the CPU during the encoding process is creating a bottleneck, slowing all processes down.

Rendering/encoding video is a CPU intensive operation. I would venture to say that it isn’t actually your internet connection that is slowing, but your CPU is so being monopolized by the render process that any other CPU activity going on simultaneously, including internet usage, will be slowed – giving the perception that it is the internet connection that is being compromised.

I’d run a broadband speed test during encoding to see if there is any real speed difference. I just ran such a test and my speeds are identical, with or without encoding going on.

I may step on some toes here, but a few years ago, when we started shooting in AVCHD, we were under the same impression. Back then we were having to transcode to an intermediate codec anyway because PPRo choked on AVCHD footage. Thinking as you do, and it would seem to be a logical assumption, we did many tests keying identical footage in both original AVCHD and Cineform 4:2:2. We keyed both with Ultra Key and Keylight. The shots were done in our studio and lit meticulously.

I did some blind testing with a few people, and no one could pick out which was which, they appeared absolutely identical. It should be easy enough for you to perform the same test, just to ease your own mind.

Until and if Red Giant addresses the issue, it seems the only solution, unless you are willing to revert to an older version of Looks.

Well, not exactly a “new way”but rather the “old way”, applying Looks directly to a clip like we did before we had Adjustment Layers, or to a nested sequence.

We use Looks for grading as well. However, understand that the Presets are merely starting points, unless you are absolutely satisfied with the look that a preset applies. If you take a look at the toolsets, there is one called ‘Warm/Cool’ that might help you get the look you want.

Well, sad to say that it doesn’t seem to matter how I open the files. They all appear corrupted. I’ve found that I can go backward opening Auto-Saves, and I’ll finally find one that will actually open.
