  • Premiere CC project file and all auto-saves corrupted

I recently upgraded to Premiere Pro CC from CS6 and when working on a project file that was started in CS6, I got a serious error and the application crashed. Now when I try to open the project file and all of the auto-saves, it’s telling me that the project file is corrupt or damaged. Can anyone please help me fix the file? It can be downloaded here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2ONyOvjaofNekhKOWFzSHVpV3c/edit?usp= sharing

    I’m on Mac 10.9.2

I’ve also tried all of the fixes I can find, like importing it through media browser, repairing it using Pro Maintenance Tools, etc.

I had the exact same problem using PP CS5.1 So they have a possible legacy bug. Something made every copy of the ppj corrupt and even the autosave versions. As I would try each one, it would become corrupted upon opening – until none were left.

I recently had a similar situation. I was having many issues with Premiere Pro CC, and decided to re-install. After re-install PPro wouldn’t recognize many media types, including AVI’s exported from After Effects. I then decided to do a reformat of the system drive and reinstall of Windows and everything. Now many of my projects and their auto save versions are showing as corrupted. Even the backup versions are corrupted.

Normally I’d suspect a disk problem, but my auto saves are on a separate drive, and the backups on another, plus I’ve run checks on the drives and no errors are reported. Then I read your post.

I have had the same problem with CC and I think I have figured it out, at least for my situation. I restart a project by double clicking on the Project file instead of starting CC and selecting the project file from the splash screen. Even today, when double clicking on the project file, I got the damaged file box. When I say OK the Premiere Pro splash screen comes up and it is CS6. (I still have CS 6 installed on my computers)

I then right-click on the project file and select “Open With…” and CS 6 is the default. Even though I have told the file that CC is the default in the past. It doesn’t happen every time, but it happens enough to be annoying. So, I select “Open with…” CC and the file opens without a problem.

This might not be your problem exactly, but it happens to me enough making me want to start CC first and then select the project. That way I know CC is starting.

Thanks Butch! I’ll give it a shot. After my total reinstall I had also installed PPro CS6 to get Encore, so that may actually be my problem.

Well, sad to say that it doesn’t seem to matter how I open the files. They all appear corrupted. I’ve found that I can go backward opening Auto-Saves, and I’ll finally find one that will actually open.

    Thanks Jim,

But unfortunately opening the project that way also doesn’t work for me.
