I recently had a similar situation. I was having many issues with Premiere Pro CC, and decided to re-install. After re-install PPro wouldn’t recognize many media types, including AVI’s exported from After Effects. I then decided to do a reformat of the system drive and reinstall of Windows and everything. Now many of my projects and their auto save versions are showing as corrupted. Even the backup versions are corrupted.

Normally I’d suspect a disk problem, but my auto saves are on a separate drive, and the backups on another, plus I’ve run checks on the drives and no errors are reported. Then I read your post.

To have this functionality, you would need to upgrade to a version that includes Adobe Prelude.

Subclips do not create a new file, they are merely references to portions of the original media. They do not add to the size of the media for the project.

The AVI part of the mystery has been solved, and was my error. They were rendered with the Cineform codec, and I hadn’t re-installed it yet.

However, the M2TS files still show as unsupported. But, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel – I can import new instances of those files, and replace them on the timeline – not with the easy “Replace with clip from bin” way, mind you – the timecode isn’t honored and the replacing clip’s portion doesn’t match the one it’s replacing, so I’m having to replace each manually.

I’ve discovered that I can now create a new project and import those ‘unsupported’ files without error. Prior to the whole reinstall exercise I couldn’t.

I tried to import the old project into a new one, but the error comes along with it.

Well, after a complete format and reinstall of Windows 7 and CC, the issue has worsened. Now, not only are any .m2ts files showing as unsupported, but all of my AVI’s rendered from AE are as well. SO…we are officially dead in the water, and I’ve got to tell my client that we can’t work on their project until we get this fixed.

Thanks Adobe. I’ve been a big cheerleader, but now I’m not so sure.

Well, after a couple of hours of uninstalling/re-installing the problem remains. I’m hesitant to contact support, because the last time this happened I spent an hour of so with them connected to my machine, and we never could figure out a solution, except to try re-installing again. As I recall, after a couple of more re-installs, the problem magically rectified itself.

Reminded me of my tech support days when we would have the caller perform some menial tasks while we worked out the problem on our end, and made them think that the menial tasks they had performed actually fixed their issue.

Not sure why you are going through all of this. Why not just ingest the cards to a drive, and store them there – ready to be used in an edit. Do you have a much earlier version of PPro that cannot edit AVCHD media?
