  • Color grading for wedding short movies ?

Hi, we are currently using Red Giant Looks in Premiere Pro for our wedding videos color grading.
We use the presets like INDIE and EPIC color sets, but im not satisfied with the output, as they really dont give me the wedding warm feeling.

    See those 2 videos :

    https://vimeo.com/87237247
    and
    https://vimeo.com/52295126

Im looking to achieve the exact same color tone like the 2nd one.

What do you guys suggest ?

We use Looks for grading as well. However, understand that the Presets are merely starting points, unless you are absolutely satisfied with the look that a preset applies. If you take a look at the toolsets, there is one called ‘Warm/Cool’ that might help you get the look you want.

The problem is, since Premire Pro CC, the Looks preview doesnt work.

I have reported it to RED GIANT many times, but no one has solved this.

Thats why, its very hard to make the adjustments in real time and see it in the preview.

The preview in MB Looks works fine here.

PPro CC here too and Looks works just fine. Make sure you’ve upgraded to the latest version of Looks.

You must be running both the latest version of the Red Giant software AND the latest version of Premiere Pro CC.

Even then, you’re still going to have issues. We have them here. Most often it’s a black screen where the Preview should be or we see the wrong image in the preview window.

Been talking to Red Giant, they are aware of the situation and trying to rectify. My fix is to quit PPro and re-open when the preview window goes black.

If you are applying looks to an adjustment layer then no you have no Preview.
You have to roll back to version 2.0.8.

Well, I always apply to a new adjustment layer and it used to work fine last year.

Why is it not working now ?

Whats the new way to apply looks then , if not to a adjustment layer ?

The biggest difference I see between these two productions comes from either lighting or “power windows” — specific, masked areas of the frame that can be colored independently of the rest of the frame.

The first example makes heavy use of vignetting to draw the eye to the subject; the second does not and looks a bit flatter as a result.

I just bought the Wedding & Events Looks Package from Red Giant.

Let me see, if any of its 30 presets can get me a good result.

[Soumendra Jena] “Whats the new way to apply looks then , if not to a adjustment layer ?”

Well, not exactly a “new way”but rather the “old way”, applying Looks directly to a clip like we did before we had Adjustment Layers, or to a nested sequence.
