Well, depending on your project, perhaps 10GB RAM isn’t required to RAM preview it. Just because you have 12 gigs doesn’t mean it’s going to use it all the time for every project.
Do you have multi-processing enabled? What are your computer specs?

There’s also some fairly heavy depth of field blurring that could help hide smudges on the glass, if you went that route

Might be a daft question, but have you installed the DNxHD codecs for Quicktime? Might be a start if you’re having trouble importing these files to AE.

What sort of file are you trying to render to? What resolution?
A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

You would select Quicktime, then in the Quicktime settings choose the codec, etc. I would recommend downloading and installing the x264 codecs for Quicktime Pro for decent quality h264 renders.

Actually, your original post didn’t explicitly state that you were attempting to write a script, per se, and since most questions here *would* pertain to expressions rather than scripts, I think it’s an oversight that can be forgiven, no?
Did you not have any luck with your question over at aescripts.com?
Because if you can get help with scripting anywhere, it’s there. Perhaps you need to think of alternate ways to achieve the result you’re after.
