  • H.264 not listed in Render Settings

Hi guyz I m having a serious problem, at least for myself. I’ve had been using After Effects for a while and I didn’t see anything like this ever before. It’s maybe because I’ve just installed it on my new computer. Anyways the problem is…

I have a composition to render in After Effects, now that I’m finished working on it, I want to render it. Now that I’ve got my composition in Render Queue and when I go to the Output Module to Select my desired Format. In the format list I see every other format e.g(Wmv, JPEG Seq, Mp3, Quicktime) but there is no H.264.

Is there anyway I could get it installed in my new computer? I Luv H.264 Format :/

    Looking for a positive reply.
    Thanx
    Usman

You could use the h.264 from the Quicktime-Codec?

You would select Quicktime, then in the Quicktime settings choose the codec, etc. I would recommend downloading and installing the x264 codecs for Quicktime Pro for decent quality h264 renders.

It’s only work if you’d rather be doing something else…

I’d recommend rendering to a mastering-quality intermediate codec like Lossless or Cineform first.

H.264 compression benefits from multi-pass encoding, which allows the compressor to deliver better quality in smaller file sizes. The render queue is not capable of multi-pass encoding.

Render to Animation codec (for example) then open eh file in Media Encoder and export to h264 from there. Or open in QT Pro and export to H264 from there.

Ben, you just posted in a 2-year-old thread. This was probably worth a new post.

Assuming you are running Ae CC, the H.264 exporter was deprecated because it is buggy and not as good as Adobe Media Encoder. You might consider rendering to an intermediate, or rendering your Ae comp directly from AME instead.

However, if you are really set on rendering directly to H.264 from Ae, you can get it back in the preferences. Check Preferences > Output > Show Deprecated Formats In Output Module Settings.
