Stephen smith, the problem with what you said is that Motion 5 cannot export to an animation.

AJ, re-read what I wrote. I never wrote that Motion 5 exports the Animation codec. Motion 4 can do Animation and ProRess 4444 set to Millions +. That is one of the many reasons I nuked Motion 5 from my machine 30 minutes after I installed it. But as you have learned. Motion 5 can still do ProRes 4444 which I said it could.

Plus, from Motion, there is no option to chose for Millions of colors +

I don’t have Motion 5, but if there is a transparent Alpha channel then it is set to Million of color +. Click on the Advanced button and then you will get an option to change its depth. You can have an Animation or ProRes 4444 clip with out a transparency if you wanted to.

I’m happy to help and best of luck.

Also, for users who don’t have FCP like me or want to put up keyed footage for others to use, you want to be able to export with a trans BKG.

Once again, re-read what I wrote. I gave you two options…not one. I never said you shouldn’t export out a clip, other wise I would have never told you how to do it.

  • Here is a link to a tutorial to help you prepare your sequences to go from FCP to color. by Walter Biscardi.

Also, if you just need to color correct a few shots then you only need to bring in those shots. Other wise you will need to convert the stock footage shots to a codec Color will use. Best of luck.

  • Color does an amazing job at this. Also DaVinci Resolve Light is free….plus it is software that is still supported.

DVD is 4:3 and HD is 16×9 so it will letter box it. You can set it so if the DVD is played on a 16×9 TV it will feel the screen completely with no letter boxing and in this case pillar boxing. You can set it to Pan and Scan and that is like a center cut so the sides get cut off….I hate Pan and Scan. You have these three option in DVD studio pro. where you looking to do one of these?

  • You can bypass all of this and just import the Motion project file in FCP and it will keep it transparent.

If you need a video clip then simply just export out the project as a ProRes 4444 or Animation codec set to Millions +. I thought if you are on Motion 5 then Animation isn’t an option. There are other codecs but I find that to be the easiest.

Chris and Ann, thanks for your help and quick reply. I’m a FCP refugee looking for a new place to land my feet.

I believe Adobe has basically ignored these types of features because of the insanely powerful dynamic-link to After Effects.

I love the dynamic-link feature and I’m very familiar with After Effects. However, I’m cutting a 30 minute long video shot behind a white back ground and need to cut out the edge of the shot that isn’t static. Being able to add a feather to the mask will solve my problem real quick. Sending it to AE could create over 100 AE project files. That’s not good. Programing Premiere to add a feather to a garbage matte really shouldn’t be the hard.

The alternative that you jokingly called “so super simple” may just have to work. What a pain in the…

If you go to the Inspector and click on the Text tab and then the Style button you can change the Face color right there.

June 11, 2012 at 10:07 pm in reply to: Creating a floor reflection on the z-plane??

Take a look at this corporate video open I did.
Notice that their feet line up in the reflection even though they shouldn’t. I used the puppet tool to stretch the feet in the area where they do not connect. Depending on the amount of movement in your green screen subject this can be a time consuming task but it will look like a reflection really should. Hope this made sense and best of luck.
