I prefer to drag my clip into the time line and let FCP ask me if I want to change my timeline to the settings of the clip. Keep in mind that your clips can’t be RAW clips. If you are working with a DSLR like the 5D you still have to log and transfer the clips even though they are Quicktimes, since they are H.264 Quicktimes. They won’t play properly in FCP. Hope this helps.

What I do all the time is go to Media then file/capture. It takes about 10 seconds then in my case a message pops up letting me know “there is no valid input signal detected”. I can then use my monitor with FCP.I’ll give it a try.

In my opinion Apple doesn’t play nice with the other kids in the sandbox and doesn’t support as many codecs as Adobe does. I would recommend exporting out your files as a Quicktime movie like ProRes. It supports basically any Quicktime codec installed on your computer. Not a 100% sure I understand what you are after. If you want the logo to wipe on in a circle go to Effects, Transitions, Radial Wipe.
You may want the logos scale to go from 0 to 100% and have it rotate a couple full rotations while the circle is writing on as an alternative idea.

I’m not familiar with the Canon Vixia HF R21 but can you use MPEG Streamclip (a free program) to convert them to quicktime? What type of file do they create?
