Andy,
There is no ghosting on the stills. They look very sharp.

I just ran a test to see what 32-bit float would look like. Change it to 32-bit in Motion. Brought the project file in FCP and changed the Sequence Settings Video Processing to “Render all YUV material in high-precision YUV.” It looked better but still had bad strobing.

I like to break my complicated projects into pieces if I can. So that way it is in smaller chunks. Also, sometimes instead of a Ram prieviw I will bring the project file into FCP and render it there to see how it looks in real time. Then make my changes and render again. I learned a 3D program once and the learning curves are steep. I agree and think Zaxwerks is worth looking at. Plus they offer a free trial of the program.

I’ve tried Field Rendering Off and I can’t seem to stop the strobing. If you look at the video it looks like it has some field interlacing issue but my fields are set to None.

I’ve tried a Animation codec export out of Motion and a Tiff image sequence and both look the same.

Strobing Animation

Keep in mind that what you are looking at is small and that the strobing looks worse on a broadcast monitor and even worse on a projector playing blue ray.

Also, keep in mind that the sample is small. It looks real bad when you look at it on a big monitor and even worse when projected off a blue ray.

Walter,
When I conform a clean 29.97 clip to 23.976 (23.98, apple rounds up the number) it strobes just like the clip created in 23.98. I can’t figure out what is wrong with the cadence.

Strobing Animation

As you can see the movement is not crazy and should look great. Movie title opens such as the one on Catch Me if You can has text moving at the same speed but looks great.

I did try to add Motion blur and it still strobes.
