Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy workflow question

I recently captured and edited using apple pro res 422 hq. I now would like to recompress the sequence to a lower file size ( make offline?) so I can email it to another editor who also has the same footage. That way he can reconnect the media at its normal quality and see the project in the same format I see it. I apologize if this is not clear. Any advice would be much appreciated I’m still learning.

If he already has the same footage why don’t you just send them a project file?

If the project size is to big you can use YouSendIt.com to send up to 200mb files for free. However project files are real small in size.

I guess I’m not sure what we are talking about. Are you talking about a exported version of the video? The Raw clips? The FCP Project file?

And the person you are sending the project to does not have any footage or do they?

You cannot re compress a project file, a project file contains no media, all it had is information on what has been done with the media.

If the other person already has a copy of the media, organized in the same way you do on your computer then all they need is the project file.

[Zane Barker] “You cannot re compress a project file,”
No but you should ZIP (archive) it before you send project files. This is more of bundling them then making them smaller.

True, what I was getting at is it seems that Matt is confusing the project file with the project media, they are separate, the project file does not contain media.
