Where are you seeing a “video quality” slider? The only one I am aware of is in the “Render As” modify template options.
Capture is just a bit-for-bit copy of the data on your HDV tape.

” The computer would not recognize it with a cable that was firewire to USB.”
There’s no such animal.

Bumblebee.
I probably have both the 32-bit and 64-bit Java Runtime Environments loaded. I don’t recall installing it, and I didn’t notice it in the requirements.Steve Mann

Riiiiiight…
Version 9 was probably the most stable, reliable version of Sony Vegas ever. It’s been run by thousands of satisfied users, but because *your* PC has a problem, there *must* be something wrong in Vegas.Steve Mann

It could still be heat related – most CPU chips will “throttle down” if they get too hot. Tun Coretemp to monitor your CPU temperature while you are using Vegas. If the CPU temperature approaches Tj.Max, then there’s your problem.

Same client, but this time he handed me the SD card right out of the camera. Mediainfo says the files on the card are XDCAM EX 35, MPEG4 in a MOV container:
General
Complete name : Z:tempThe Waiting Room200_0014_01.MOV
Format : MPEG-4
Commercial name : XDCAM EX 35
Format profile : QuickTime
Codec ID : qt
File size : 172 MiB
Duration : 40s 541ms
Overall bit rate mode : Variable
Overall bit rate : 35.6 Mbps
Encoded date : UTC 2013-05-12 17:34:30
Tagged date : UTC 2013-05-12 17:34:30The program, XDCAM ClipBrowser doesn’t see it because it’s an MOV file.
Any tips to open this would be appreciated…..

May 9, 2013 at 3:10 am in reply to: Exception error when importing AAF file. Vegas Pro 12.0.563Exception Errors are almost always a driver issue. Was Vegas 10 on a 32-bit system and Vegas 12 on a 64-bit system? You don’t have any Codec Packs installed, I hope.
As a workaround, do you still have the Vegas 10 system? If the AAF file imports into Vegas 10, then encode the file into a intermediate format to load into Vegas 12.

There isn’t much you can do. Use a bitrate calculator to determine your bitrates to encode a 4.3Gb MPEG file.
