How do I open an XDCAM file in Vegas?

Steve, try and get a copy of the original info from your client.
Assuming it’s from a card, have him copy the contents of the entire card to a drive and give that to you.
Grab a copy of XDCAM EX ClipBrowser and use this to extract the information from it.
I keep it in my Dropbox folder because I get tired of searching for it every time someone is looking for it.

If he no longer has the card but has FCP, have him render it out in ProRes as I know Vegas will read that.

That’s because the client’s Mac as already munged the video into a QuickTime container which Vegas isn’t expecting. Tell your client that you’re not a Mac shop and, as Mike said, require the original source files from the camera in order to work with them.

Yea, it’s a shame that the Mac doesn’t use native formats but I understand why they do it. Glad you got something that works.

Same client, but this time he handed me the SD card right out of the camera. Mediainfo says the files on the card are XDCAM EX 35, MPEG4 in a MOV container:

Any tips to open this would be appreciated…..

Steve, no guarantees but see if the free XDCAM .MOV to .MXF file converter on the Convergent Design site will do the trick.

I probably have both the 32-bit and 64-bit Java Runtime Environments loaded. I don’t recall installing it, and I didn’t notice it in the requirements.
