Run Mediainfo on the captured file. This will tell you what codec was used.
It sounds like you aren’t using the right codec. Did you install a codec pack? Did you change the display adapter? Do you have the latest Quicktime installed?Most media players use their own internal codecs so all it will verify is that you did record audio. As a workaround you could try to convert the audio to a different format. Can you post a small file that exhibits the problem that we can play with?

I won’t use Windows 8 until I absolutely must, but I suspect that the Codecs installed by Windows 8 are different from the ones installed by Windows 7.
On the issue of codecs – NEVER install a codec pack on an editing PC. You risk replacing otherwise fine codecs installed by Vegas with really inferior ones.
On the Dynamic RAM – this RAM is only used when you use Shift-B to render a region to RAM. If you never use Shift-B renders you still need some preview RAM. A few years ago someone, and I don’t recall who, did some rendering tests with diferent amounts of Preview RAM and discovered that no preview RAM took longer to render than with some Preview RAM. 1Gb seems to be the sweet spot.

Region codes are an optional restriction. If you specify no region code than the DVD can be played anywhere on compatible players.

I’m not ignoring the rest of your post, but I got called away. Besides, I like to focus on one point at a time.
So, your O/S and Vegas are on Drive C:, and what is on the SSD? That is still confusing. This is a laptop – are there two drives in it? I use external drives with Vegas all the time, so that isn’t an issue. But if everything (O/S, programs and data) are on a single drive, then performance will suffer slightly.
Your temps look fine, so forget that as the issue. BTW compressed air in a laptop can be bad news because it just shoves the dust further into tiny crevices, and possibly into the moving parts in the DVD drive.
In Vegas Preferences, how much Preview RAM do you have set aside? If you never use Shift-B preview, you don’t need much. Some say zero, but someone did experiments a few years ago (I don’t recall who), and determined that Vegas needs some Preview RAM even if you never use Shift-B preview. 1Mb was the sweet spot.

There are always at least two ways to do anything in Vegas, often more. So there is no right method. There is simply what works.
As I said, I look for the fastest, easiest way to do the job, and while your process works for you, it would take me too long to duplicate the keyframes for every moving event. It’s just too much work.
Nested projects are treated like any other event and it’s not unusual for me to have a dozen on a single project. Once you make the lower-thirds project file for each name, why would you ever have to open it again?

Use a second display and use the whole screen for the multicam preview. Caution – once you use multiple screens, you will never want to go back.
