Helllppp!!! I posted this onece before and got no answers so trying again. I’m shooting with Canon XH-A1S and recording onto a Datavideo DN-60 CF recorder. I’ve used this combo successfully on numerous projects, editing in Vegas Pro-10. No problems until recently. Now when I import the recorded media into the project I have the video but only the first few seconds of the audio. I know the audio is there because I can play it back through the camera or double-click the file on my computer and it opens and plays in windows media player. I’m not doing anything differently than before, so what’s up? I sent the DN-60 back to Datavideo and they sent it back saying it works fine and has the latest firmware version. As I mentioned I can play the media back and it is definitely recording video and audio, and checking the properties of the file shows both are there. Any ideas?

Run Mediainfo on the captured file. This will tell you what codec was used.
It sounds like you aren’t using the right codec. Did you install a codec pack? Did you change the display adapter? Do you have the latest Quicktime installed?

Most media players use their own internal codecs so all it will verify is that you did record audio. As a workaround you could try to convert the audio to a different format. Can you post a small file that exhibits the problem that we can play with?

What format did you record in? I see that you can shoot HDV (.m2t) or DV25 (.mov) format with the Datavideo DN-60. The format will determine what codecs you need.

John, recorded in HDV, so .M2t. What I’m finding confusing is that I haven’t changed anything, doing exactly as before but now, even though I know the audio is there only the first few seconds show up when I open the file in the trimmer or on the timeline. Weird. I took the precaution of backing up my audio by simultaneously recording on a Zoom H4n so I can save the project.

Wow, HDV shouldn’t be giving you any problems. That’s very strange. If you want to upload a small sample to DropBox or something I’d be happy to download it and test it out on my system for you. That will at least tell you if it’s the files or the computer.
