A whole folder disappearing sounds a lot like you may have some cross-linked sectors on the hard disk. Go to a cmd prompt and run chkdsk.exe. If you do have cross-linked sectors, then stop using that drive until you fix it Back up the files before you run the fix (chkdsk /f) because fixing the cross-linked sectors can effect files that were intact prior to the fix.
And, what John said – you need to rethink your workflow and file organization.

We have all seen access violations occur since we took ownership of our first x86 PC’s. The infamous “Bluescreen”, application crashes, it doesn’t really matter, access violations are all over the place. For any of you that remember the good old Windows 9x days, a General Protection Fault and Invalid Page Fault are basically the same thing (and a segmentation fault too). To many people, the phrase ‘access violation’ is synonymous with “crash”. But what exactly is an access violation?
To put it simply, an access violation occurs any time an area of memory is accessed that the program doesn’t have permission to access. This can be due to bad code, faulty RAM or even a bad device driver. It really doesn’t matter who the culprit is, the root issue is the same.
The free program: Prime95, available at https://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=103 will torture test your PC. If you have bad RAM or a heat sensitive component, this program will find it. While you may not be overclocking, Vegas is very processor intensive – more than Premiere. If you have a PC on the edge of stability, Prime95 will push your PC hard. If you can run Prime95 for an hour, then your PC is probably not the problem.
If you have a problem driver, I recommend running Driver Detective from https://www.drivershq.com/ (Actually a good plan is to run Driver Detective periodically. I doesn’t do anything to your installed drivers unless you tell it to.)

Fix your computer.
There’s too many people using V10 and MB plug-ins without problems for your problems to be the fault of the software.Find and download the freeware program: Prime95. This will tell you if your PC is leting you down.

Mine doesn’t work that way – event pan/crop opens with the cursor locked. Make sure the lock (sync to cursor) is selected.
BTW – everything on the timeline are events, not clips.

Define “large”. I have some projects over three-hours in duration with up to 35 tracks including various FX and stills. I really can’t remember the last time that Vegas crashed a project here. Somewhere around version 5 or 6.
But what you describe is perfect for nested veg files.
Edit and save individual segments, then when you are ready to compile them together, just make a master project and load the segment veg files on the timeline.

Most of the time I can get 720p from You Tube, occasionally, 1080p. All from the same video source – with minor edite between them.Steve Mann
