I have a bit of a general question, not necessarily even about Vegas specifically. I have a large project which I am working on, essentially a compilation of many different video sketches, each of which require multiple and different audio/video tracks. I don’t want to work on the entire project in one project file, because then I will have to deal with a multitude of audio/video tracks for each individual sketch, as well as the extreme lag and possible crashes due to Vegas having so much video/audio loaded at once. So, I would like to create a different project file for each sketch; this is where the problem is.
If I do this, and have a different project file for each sketch: in the end, once each project file is completed, is there any way to merge the project files together, or copy/paste everything from each project file into a final one?
Or, is the only way to render each separate project file, then put them together in the final project file, then render again? I don’t want to do this, because rendering several times obviously reduces quality.

When you are done with each project – at the end – you place the individual projects into a NEW project and render! Done!!

Define “large”. I have some projects over three-hours in duration with up to 35 tracks including various FX and stills. I really can’t remember the last time that Vegas crashed a project here. Somewhere around version 5 or 6.

But what you describe is perfect for nested veg files.

Edit and save individual segments, then when you are ready to compile them together, just make a master project and load the segment veg files on the timeline.

I had problems with Vegas pro 8 crashing with a six minute video, but the reason is My source files we 14,000 six meg targa files to be rendered at 1080 60p and 720 60p. I had to do it in two parts, render each half as uncompressed, then render those two files to my finals. I don’t think the amount of tracks is the issue as I’ve had projects with almost 30 tracks and had no problems.
Hope this helps, Danny Hays, Universal Studios FL
